We believe that all children should be well educated in all areas of life. Here at St Aldhelm’s we aim to provide a comprehensive school visiting program to assist schools in teaching about Christianity. We pride ourselves in making visits age appropriate and useful in building on what is taught in the classroom. We do not evangelize to anyone who is visiting and encourage open questioning, tolerance and dialogue.
We are very happy to liaise with schools on how we can focus on a particular area of the syllabus or on a topic being studied at the time. We allow the children to explore the church and have an experienced volunteer team who take smaller groups to see the most important parts of the church, with groups moving onto another activity every few minutes (the carousel). Children are often allowed to handle chalices, put on robes, light candles and even play the organ! Where appropriate we use puppets to help teach about baptism etc. We also provide worksheets for children of different ages. They can be downloaded here. We ask that schools photocopy the worksheets themselves to help us with our running costs.
Risk assessment visits can be arranged and the vicar is always pleased to have a conversation about how we might tailor a visit to any groups needs. We have a toilet on site and of course a first aid kit. 02088075336
